Magdeburg celebrate their third cup victory after 1996 and 2016
“SCM rules here”: For the third time after 1996 and 2016, SC Magdeburg are German Cup winners. After losing three finals in 2019, 2022 and 2023, Bennet Wiegert's team won the final in Cologne at the REWE Final4 on Sunday 30:19 (13:11) against MT Melsungen, who still have to wait for their first cup win. It was the second clearest result of a German Cup final after THW Kiel's 30:15 against TV Niederwürzbach in 1998.
Current German cup winner: Rhein-Neckar Löwen
Since its victory over VfL Gummersbach in 2009, THW Kiel has been the sole record winner of the DHB Cup with a total of twelve titles. Since 1975, the cup competition has been contested in an elimination procedure alongside the regular league matches. All Bundesliga clubs from the 1st and 2nd HBL of the previous season as well as the clubs that qualified via the regional cup competitions are allowed to take part. The winner of the DHB Cup has been decided in a Final Four since 1993. From 1994 to 2022, the Final Four was held in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg. Since 2023, the LANXESS arena in Cologne has been the new venue for the final round.
