Can Füchse Berlin slow down league leaders SC Magdeburg, or will the SCM take another major step towards the championship? This question will be answered at Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash. On Sunday, the eastern derby will be about vital points in the relegation battle.
With a six-point deficit to leaders SC Magdeburg, Füchse Berlin head into the headline match of Matchday 26 of the DAIKIN Handball Bundesliga at the GETEC Arena – a fixture that could prove decisive in the title race. Also in focus: the eastern clash at bottom side Leipzig and the duel between the chasing pack in Kiel. In addition, the league’s four most prolific scorers currently will face each other in two direct encounters.
Thursday, 26 March:
- With two wins from their last three matches – against Hannover and Melsungen – HSV Hamburg have consolidated 11th place, with 21:29 points.
- While Hamburg are likely no longer involved in the relegation battle, Bergischer HC, in 15th place with 12:38 points, are only two points above the first relegation spot. Most recently, BHC suffered defeats against Magdeburg and Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
- Hamburg’s Dane Nicolaj Jørgensen has scored 152 goals this season, making him the sixth best scorer in the league. BHC’s top scorer is Noah Beyer with 136 goals, who will join Hamburg next season.
- BHC won the reverse fixture 35:32 – as well as the two previous home matches against Hamburg. Their last away win in Hamburg came in 2021; overall, BHC lead the head-to-head 7–6.
